GENTIANE MG TRIO

Gentiane MG basée à Montréal, au Canada est une pianiste et compositrice lauréate de plusieurs prix. Pour elle, la musique passe avant tout par l’introspection, l’émotion et l’imaginaire. Son univers se nourri de plusieurs traditions, allant du jazz contemporain au bebop à la musique classique — des influences qui font partie intégrante de sa vie depuis l'enfance.

Sur scène, elle partage son univers avec le bassiste Levi Dover et le batteur Mark Nelson, deux figures importantes du jazz de création au Canada. Le trio compte trois albums à son actif et prépare une nouvelle sortie pour mars 2026. Cette sortie sera suivie de tournées en Europe et au Canada.

Intitulé Can you hear the Birds? le nouvel album est une invitation à la rencontre et au partage avec l’être humain sous toutes ses formes, racontée en huit plages. La musique y est conçue comme un chant jouant avec les contrastes du clair-obscur, à la fois lyrique et rythmée, avec des zones d’ombre qui entraînent l’auditeur dans un voyage au cœur de son propre imaginaire.

Le trio compte trois albums à son actif : Eternal Cycle (Arté Boréal, 2017), Wonderland (Effendi, 2019) et Walls Made of Glass (TPR Records, 2022).

Ces albums lui ont valu plusieurs distinctions, dont le prix Révélation Radio-Canada (2019), le prix François-Marcaurelle de la Guilde des musiciens du Québec (2019), le prix OPUS de l’Artiste de l’année (2020), ainsi que celui du Meilleur album de jazz de l’année (2023). Leur dernier album, Walls Made of Glass, a également été nommé aux prix de l’ADISQ (Québec) et aux JUNO  (Canada) en 2024.

À la suite de cette dernière parution, le trio s’est produit plus d’une cinquantaine de fois au Canada, au Mexique, en Allemagne, aux Pays-Bas, en Italie, en Hongrie et en France. Parmi les lieux notables figurent le Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, le Festival de jazz d’Echternach (Luxembourg), le Unterfahrt Jazz Club (Munich), le Sunside Jazz Club (Paris) et le Opus Jazz Club (Budapest).

INFOS : Le Gentiane MG trio bénéficie du soutien de Musicaction et de la SODEC (gouvernement canadien et québécois) pour ses tournées internationales, couvrant notamment les frais de transport et d’hébergement. Le trio est également disponible pour la présentation d’ateliers et de masterclasses, et demeure ouvert à la négociation des conditions financières. Gentiane MG based in Montreal, Canada is an award-winning pianist and composer. For her, music is above all a matter of introspection, emotion, and imagery. Her artistic universe draws from various traditions, ranging from contemporary jazz to bebop to classical music — influences that have been an integral part of her life.

On stage, she shares her world with bassist Levi Dover and drummer Mark Nelson, two prominent figures in Canada’s creative jazz scene. The trio has released three albums to date and is preparing a new release set for March 2026. This upcoming album will be followed by tours in Europe and across Canada.

Entitled Can you hear the Birds? the new album is an invitation to connection and shared human experience in all its forms, told through eight tracks. The music is conceived as a collection of songs that plays with light and shadow, both lyrically and rhythmically rich, drawing the listener into a journey through their own inner world.

Their latest album, Walls Made of Glass, was also nominated for the ADISQ (Quebec) and JUNO Awards (Canada) in 2024.

Following this most recent release, the trio has performed more than fifty times across Canada, Mexico, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Hungary, and France. Notable venues include the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the Echternach Jazz Festival (Luxembourg), the Unterfahrt Jazz Club (Munich), the Sunside Jazz Club (Paris) and the Opus Jazz Club (Budapest).
