SLIP OF TIME (Glissement du Temps)
JLO

For two decades, the JAZZLAB ORCHESTRA has been a driving force for creativity. This unique collective is back with a major project: an ambitious new album that blends polyrhythmic, polytonal, and impressionistic styles, carried by sophisticated writing and improvisation that remains at the heart of its identity.

With eight albums and nearly 500 concerts around the world, the JAZZLAB ORCHESTRA is about to open a new chapter. After a residency at Orford Musique, several memorable concerts at festivals and venues, and the recording of a new album in May 2025 at Studio Piccolo in Montreal, the group will be ready to unveil its next opus in early 2026. (Album release date: Spring 2026)

All of the JAZZLAB ORCHESTRA's projects, without exception, have been nominated in the Best Jazz Album and/or Best Jazz Concert categories at the ADISQ, JUNO Awards, Opus Awards, Choc JazzMan, Downbeat, and other awards. The most recent project, Loguslabusmuzikus, was nominated at the ADISQ in the Album of the Year 2022 category, was chosen as a Hit by Couleurs Jazz (France), and received ratings of 5, 4.5, and 4 stars in several international jazz magazines. In addition, dozens of special projects have been carried out with international artists such as François Théberge, Stéphane Belmondo, Ted Nash, Zhao Ke, Rufus Reid, Don Thompson, Donny McCaslin, Reg Schwager, Mark Feldman, Rafael Zaldivar, François Bourassa, Jocelyn Ménard, Toine Thys, Fulvio Albano, Greg Lamy, and Claudia Chan Tak.

SLIP OF TIME (GLISSEMENT DU TEMPS)

A unique and daring program
This new opus, entitled  Slip of Time (Glissement du Temps), offers a true musical journey through ten original pieces (7 on CD, 4 on vinyl, 10 on the web) written by leading members of the collective and three other renowned composers, François Bourassa, Gentiane MG, and Pierre de Bethmann, offering works that elegantly blend into a diverse sound mosaic. This project marks the 20th anniversary of the JAZZLAB ORCHESTRA and is a landmark work in the group's history: a portrait of both the past and a vision of the future.

In Slip of Time (Glissement du Temps), each piece is a breath, a fleeting burst that slips and transforms. The album unfolds soundscapes where rhythms, colors, and timbres are woven into complex movements that are both fluid and timeless. It is a sensitive journey, where time becomes music, and music becomes memory. Each track is a fragment of escaping time, a fragile moment captured in the living fabric of a reinvented and refreshed jazz.

A vibrant tribute :
This album is also an opportunity to pay tribute to our colleague Mario Allard, an essential member of the collective who passed away suddenly in early 2025. His musical presence resonates in every note of this recording, whose ultimate musical prowess was captured during an extraordinary session, reproduced here with emotion.

Musicians on the album :
Mario Allard (as, bs), Annie Dominique (ss, as, ts, bc), Claire Devlin (ss, ts), Erik Hove (as, fl), Michael Johancsik (ts, fl), Jacques Kuba Séguin, Nicolas Riverin (tp), Thomas Morelli-Bernard (tb), Marie-Fatima Rudolf, François Bourassa (p), Alain Bédard (cb), Michel Lambert (drs).
